How many layers of skin do we humans have, and what are they named?

There are three main layers:

(outer most) epidermis

(middle) dermis

(inner most/ deepest) subcutaneous or hypodermis

NOTE: some people don't consider the subcutaneous part of the skin. It depends who you talk to.

There are subdivisions (sub layers) in the epidermis and dermis:

Epidermis--%26gt; stratum corneum (outer most)

stratum lucidum

stratum granulosum

stratum spinosum

stratum basale (inner most)

Dermis--%26gt; Papillary Region (outer most)

Reticular Region (inner most)
